Volume 15, Issue 6 of our series New Generation Polyolefins (NGP) has been published. The theme of this issue is about Repsol YPF – the leading oil and Gas Company in Spain and the 15th largest petroleum refining company in the world. It is primarily a petroleum company with main operations in oil and gas, natural gas, and LNG trading/transportation. However Repsol is also a major producer of polyolefins and elastomers in West Europe. In this issue we will review Repsol’s polyolefin technologies which have always been respectable: autoclave LDPE from ICI/Repsol, HDPE from Chevron Phillips (loop slurry) and Mitsui CX (bimodal slurry cascade reactors), PP from LyondellBasell Spheripol (bulk loop/gas process). Future expansion plans include LLDPE from Ineos (Innovene-G). The elastomers technology is based on anionic polymerization and has been continuously improved. The following two events are indicative of Repsol’s global participation in polymers and bioenergy.
